Tableau Dashboard Extensions: What They Add, and What They Can Read

Find out where it runs. An extension you drop onto a dashboard is a web application, and some of them are hosted on Tableau-managed servers while others are hosted by whoever built them. That single fact decides how much thought the rest of the decision needs. The short version: an extension is a third-party web application running inside a dashboard object, and one of the two permission levels gives it your full underlying data along with table and field names.
